Stand-Alone or Gutter-Connected Ground-to-Ground Greenhouse

The versatile Windjammer ground-to-ground greenhouse performs well for finishing and multi-tier production. You can maximize space with hanging baskets overhead and containers on the ground.

Use the Windjammer as a standalone house or add double-bolted ground stakes and heavy-gauge, easy-walk-in gutters for an alternative to “traditional” gutter-connected designs where building permits are not required.

The Windjammer allows you to take full advantage of natural ventilation for your growing environment. You can also outfit it with environmental controls, mechanical ventilation, heating, shade systems, and benches.

Highlights

  • The gothic-arch shape facilitates better snow shed off the peaks of the houses and reduces condensation drip inside the structure.
  • High-strength square tubing incorporated into ground stakes and bow assemblies for added strength. You can achieve even greater resistance to snow and wind with the addition of a horizontal crossbar.
  • Triple-galvanized U.S. square steel for strength and longevity. Aluminum extrusions and flashing for a long-lasting clean finish.
  • Optional webbed truss on the bows holds hanging baskets or other equipment.
  • A 30′ wide structure with 6′ sidewalls is 16′ at the peak.
  • Ultra-tall sidewall and peak heights allow more natural light in and increase ventilation efficiency with more air volume.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between a freestanding greenhouse and a gutter-connected greenhouse?

A freestanding greenhouse is a single structure that is not attached to another structure. Gutter-connected greenhouses are joined at their roof gutters and the inner walls are removed to create one large growing space.

The Windjammer is designed as a freestanding ground-to-ground greenhouse, but it can also be equipped with double-bolted ground stakes and heavy-gauge, walk-in gutters. This set-up provides an alternative to traditional gutter-connected designs in areas that don’t require building permits.

Can I hang baskets in a ground-to-ground greenhouse like the Windjammer?

You can absolutely use hanging baskets in a ground-to-ground greenhouse if it is designed to handle the load and if it has the height. We offer an optional webbed truss on the bows for the Windjammer that holds hanging baskets and other overhead equipment.

Do I need a building permit for a ground-to-ground greenhouse?

The Windjammer ground-to-ground greenhouse is considered a non-engineered structure, meaning it does not have site-specific engineering incorporated into its design. That’s not to say you can’t customize a non-engineered structure, but your options are limited.

Non-engineered structures do not require a stamp from a licensed engineer or site-specific analysis, so you can’t get a building permit for them. They are generally used for agricultural purposes in areas where permitting is not required.
